Oral Cancer Screenings

Benefits of Oral Cancer Screenings

  • Early Detection Matters: Identifies concerns before noticeable symptoms appear
  • Fast, Easy, and Comfortable: The exam takes only a few minutes
  • Included in Preventive Visits: No additional appointment required
  • Enhanced Screening Options: VELscope® provides improved visibility
  • Peace of Mind: Routine screenings support long-term overall health

How Oral Cancer Screenings Work

Oral cancer can develop on the lips, tongue, cheeks, gums, throat, and other soft tissues of the mouth. Because early warning signs are often minimal, consistent screenings are essential—especially for adults over 40, tobacco users, and anyone with significant sun or alcohol exposure.

During your regular visit at North Cape Coral Dental, we perform an oral cancer screening as part of your exam. With a combination of visual examination and optional VELscope® fluorescence technology, we look for abnormal areas that may need additional review. The process is non-invasive, painless, and usually completed in just a few minutes.
